Behind the scenes: Service mechanic
Curious as to what goes on behind the scenes at the service department of Giesen? Wonder no more, because our service mechanic, Frans, will tell you about his job and what’s it like to work at Giesen Coffee Roasters.
Earlier this year, Frans had his 30th anniversary at Giesen. We took this opportunity to interview him and ask him a few questions about his background and his job as a service mechanic at Giesen Coffee roasters.
Frans, tell us more about how you started your career at Giesen
“Giesen started out as a metalware company, I started working there in 1979. They were looking for people at the factory so I applied and started.” The qualities and experience of Frans have become essential to Giesen over the years. Being a mechanic needs a lot of experience and knowledge of the coffee roasters. He started out as a cooperative foreman and has grown into a service mechanic who is travelling the world. “I used to arrange everything from purchasing the material to drawing and building the roasters. Whenever I came up with an idea, I started to put it together to build a prototype. Every coffee roaster that is built, has its own story.”
What are you most proud of?
“I am proud that I have been with Giesen from the start. I watched the company grow into the international company it is today. But I’m also very proud of the fact that I was involved with the development of our first coffee roaster, the W6A.” The first W6A was built in 2006.
What’s it like working as a service mechanic?
“For about four years I am working as a service mechanic. This means I am on the road 3 to 4 days a week. This was something I had to get used to but I think it’s fantastic to be allowed to travel the world. Some highlights of my trips were Korea, Australia and Buenos Aires.”
